21-Mountain
Lakes Challenge-New name, new route, new date, new start/finish location!
The Mountain Lakes Challenge replaces the old Ashland Triple Challenge. Same
great scenery and epic climbs, we’ve changed the tour to Saturday, found a
fantastic new rest stop on the shore of Howard Prairie Lake, and solved the
pre– and post-ride parking hassles. If you haven’t cycled the Cascade-Siskiyou
region of southern Oregon, brace yourself for a wonderful experience. In late
June the wildflowers are at their peak. With a backdrop of Mt. Ashland and
Mt. McLoughlin, you’ll ride by meadows, four dazzling lakes, and conifer forests
of the Cascade highlands. The two century rides (97 and 58 miles)
begin and end at Walker Elementary School in Ashland, while the shorter ride
(27 miles) loops around two lakes up in the Cascades, starting at Hyatt Lake.
After the tours, we’re serving special artisan burritos (chicken or vegetarian),
a side of stone ground corn tortilla chips, a fresh-Mex salad of olives, tomatoes,
corn, zucchini, red onions, and other seasonal fresh vegetables, accompanied
by a choice of cold drinks, and desserts.
Register by mail by requesting a form from Siskiyou Velo at P.O. Box 974,
Ashland, OR 97520, or downloading one from the Siskiyou Velo website http://www.siskiyouvelo.org.
Fees: century, $30; metric century, $25; short ride, $10; after June 15 add
$5 late fee. Century rides include lunch, all rides include snacks, beverages,
and bandana. There will be mechanics on the course. Mass start for the century
rides is 7:30; for the short ride, 10 a.m.

over 14 miles in length, the hillclimb begins in downtown Mount Shasta and
ends at the old ski bowl – an altitude gain of over 4100 vertical feet.

Summit Century- There's no ride quite like the Mt. Shasta Summit Century.
Challenging climbs. Breathtaking views. Lightly trafficked, rural roads. And
a cloverleaf route that encourages you to test yourself -- you're never more
than a downhill away from home.

23- When: Saturday, August 23rd; Start Time: 8am;Where: Pilgrim Creek
Rd and Hwy 89 intersection
This Saturday, August 23rd Pete is organizing a group ride. The entire route
is an out and back 85 mile ride. Beginning at Pilgrim Creek and Hwy 89; left
at Medicine Lake Hwy to Medicine Lake and then back. If you are not up for
the whole 85 miles you can turn around at any point. The out is a gradual
up hill and the back is mostly downhill. The only water replenishment point
is at Medicine Lake so if your planning for example to ride 50 miles total
you better bring at least three water bottles. This ride is not supported
so you need to carry plenty of fluid and food for 5 or more hours on the road.Bonnie
is planning to do about 50 miles of this ride at a comfortable pace 13-15mph.
So feel free to ride with her or with the longer group both starting at 8am.If
you have any questions you can reach me at work at 938.3404 or at home at
938.2363 Pete
